SolFocus Completes Initial Phase of 3-MW CPV Project

SolFocus announced the completion of its initial phase of the world’s first full scale concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) solar power plant. This facility, owned by the Institute of Concentration Photovoltaic Systems (ISFOC), has been created both as a power production facility and a proving ground for CPV technology. This first 200 kilowatt (kW) phase of SolFocus’ deployment is ready to generate electricity for the local power grid.

HR BioPetroleum To Develop Algae Facility on Maui

HR BioPetroleum, Alexander & Baldwin Inc., Hawaiian Electric Company and Maui Electric Company announced that they have signed memoranda of understanding to pursue the joint development of a commercial-scale microalgae facility on Maui to produce lipid oil for conversion to biodiesel and other valuable products, such as animal feed. The Ma’alaea algae facility would be HR BioPetroleum’s first commercial facility.

FAU and UK Partner To Study Ocean Energy

Officials from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and its Center for Ocean Energy Technology (COET) in the College of Engineering and Computer Science accompanied Florida Governor Charlie Crist on a recent visit to several universities and organizations in the United Kingdom to continue discussions, exchange information and formalize agreements in areas of clean ocean energy, environmental issues and climate change. The FAU/UK trip was part of a statewide business development mission that included nearly 100 university and business leaders.

Biking Across America: Day 4, Wind

This is the fourth in a series of video blog posts about biking across America with WE ADD UP to raise awareness about how to stop global warming.
